The older ones among you will certainly remember it. The legendary film "When the postman rings twice" from 1981 with Jack Nicholson.
But that's not what we're talking about today. It's about dog bell training - how to keep your dog cool when the doorbell rings!
The doorbell rings, your dog runs in and barks with all his might. You can barely open the door and your dog hardly calms down.
Most of the time your dog will have already learnt that something happens when the doorbell rings: a visitor arrives, something is delivered or your owner comes home. Pure excitement! For many dogs, territorial behaviour can also play a role. The doorbell rings and someone could enter your dog's area and he wants to defend it.
And that's where my classic film comes into play again. The postman comes and rings the bell, your dog barks and each time the postman disappears again. From the dog's point of view, he has done everything right by barking.
When is training on the agenda?
Certainly not if he just barks for a short time. But if your dog gets into it and won't stop barking, then it becomes more difficult. Especially as not every visitor can be fearless in front of your dog
Then there are many training ideas and methods. One of them is so-called blanket training, which I am totally convinced of.
What do you do to calm your dogs?
